1. Share some memorable experiences from your reign in 2000?
There were many, but I think sharing the ramp with Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Elle McPherson and Helena Christensen in Barcelona at a Fashion Show and fundraiser for Madiba’s Foundation stands out. And I got to sing with Bono from U2 at their rehearsals – what an event!
2. Has being a former beauty queen prevented people from taking you serious in business situations?
Sometimes, but my education (B.Comm Law and currently working on my MBA) and business prowess soon shows them I mean serious business.
3. You have recently starred in the lux tv commercial, is being a former Miss SA and television personality a full time job?
Not really. I have various business interests and am now working on my MBA, have various CSI initiatives, etc. so I make “being me” a full-time job J
4. Describe Jo Ann in five words?
Blessed, happy, ambitious, confident, competent
5. Where does Jo Ann see herself ten years from now?
I have the man of my dreams, so I’d like to have a family by then.
6. What are your hobbies?
Traveling, scuba-diving, reading and skiing – too many to mention
7. Any advice to future Miss SA hopefuls?
Not really, advice is a funny thing. It makes it sound like I have all the answers, but the truth is, one figures it out as you go along and if your moral compass is set to your true north, you don’t need much advice.
8. If someone were to star in a movie depicting your life, who would you choose to play your role and why?
Beyonce ;-) I am such a fan of hers and they could try to write it into the script that I can sing (though I am terrible at singing!)
9. Your message to your fans?
“Never, ever give up” – Winston Churchill’s shortest speech ever!
10. Share a personal style or beauty secret?
I use Lux ;-)
